Venue first opened its doors 67 years ago
The Hollywood Palladium will receive a significant upgrade and reopen in the fall of 2008.
Live Nation, the largest concert promoter in the country, has inked a deal to manage, book and operate the venue, which first opened its doors 67 years ago. Palladium, which is privately owned, has a general admission capacity of 4,000 and was a significant home to rock bands throughout the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s.
Venue will get a top-to-bottom overhaul, including an upgrade to the stage infrastructure to accommodate larger productions. The renovation will begin immediately.
Live Nation, when it was Clear Channel, financed the renovation of the nearby Palace, now known as the Avalon. Besides the 1,400-capacity Avalon, Live Nation also operates and books the 2,200-capacity Wiltern, the 1,000-capacity House of Blues and the 6,000-seat Gibson Amphitheater.

“The addition of the Hollywood Palladium to our Los Angeles-area venue portfolio provides us with the midsized-capacity venue that we were previously missing,” said Bruce Eskowitz, Live Nation CEO for North American Music.
The Hollywood Palladium opened its doors on Sept. 23, 1940, with a concert by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra. The venue became a television studio in 1961 and has hosted the Emmys, Grammys and other awards shows over the years.
Acts that have performed at the building include the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, the Who, Rod Stewart and the Police.
